Breakfast
We all slept okay, so we were pretty much ready to get out and explore. The ryokan let us pick time for a breakfast (of course within a range of common breakfast meal hours). We asked for 8:30 am. Our meal was ready when we get to a cafe area at the same table from the night before. It was very satisfactory for all of us. Rika’s favorite was a broiled salmon. It was so fresh and yummy! Amelie took a picture with Sarubobo after a meal. One of the best breakfast we had at ryokan, so the rate is high like 9 out of 10.

While on the topic of sleeping… some westerners might be a little put off by the “futon” style sleeping arrangements. Futon in Japan isn’t what it is in the States. It’s basically a pad of sorts, more than a mattress. And they give you a down comforter and feather pillow (I believe you can ask for “synthetic or hypo-allergenic” if you are allergic to the feathers). While you might not be able to sleep on your side comfortably (if that’s your norm), if you sleep on your stomach or back, it’s totally fine. In fact, you may find you feel better in the morning after sleeping on the Japanese futon than your own bed at home. Of course one thing is that the floor isn’t a hard floor, it’s tatami.
